About Us

Warboys Underfives Pre-school employs 12 staff on a part time basis. Four members of staff are NVQ Level 3 qualified, two are at Level 2 and one is at Level 1. Three additional unqualified members of staff act as relief in case of absence. An administration assistant and cleaner are also employed in support. All staff are required to attend relevant training in order to keep Warboys Underfives up to date with new initiatives and requirements. Courses recently attended or to be attended in the current academic year are as follows:

Introduction to the EYFS
Embedding the EYFS – Reflective Practice
Child Protection 1
Common Assessment Framework
Addressing Diversity through Play
Equalities – Race
Equalities – Disability
Talking Boxes
Epi-pen refresher training for all staff

One of our Level 2 staff plans to commence training to NVQ Level 3 in 2009.

At Warboys Underfives we follow the EYFS. To assist us with this we use letters and sounds and keeping safe programmes.

Warboys Underfives asks parents and carers to complete a feedback questionnaire on an annual basis so that we are able to obtain their views on how they feel the pre-school is run. In addition, each child’s keyworking file is sent home to parents and carers once each term so that they can get a feel for how their child spends his/her time at pre-school. The front page of the keyworking file has a space for comments and the parent/carer is encouraged to use this. A ‘Parent’s Evening’ is also held once each year, where parents and carers are able to meet with their child’s keyworker to discuss his/her progress, and any other issues relating to the pre-school. On a more informal basis, parents are made aware that they are quite welcome to discuss any issues with staff on an ad-hoc basis when they drop off or collect their child from pre-school.

The management committee of Warboys Underfives is made up of a number of parents and members of the community. The committee is very well structured ensuring that every aspect of management is covered:

Chairperson
Secretary
Treasurer
Fundraising chairperson (with sub-committee)
Maintenance co-ordinators
Policies co-ordinator
Sponsorship co-ordinator
Newsletter Editor
Catering Officer

The committee meets once per month, and other parents/carers are also encouraged to attend. Current issues are discussed and staff have the opportunity to report back to the committee on any issues or concerns they may have. The committee and staff have an excellent working relationship.

Facilities

Warboys Underfives occupies its own building. This is a single storey building in the heart of the village with adjacent off road parking. Set back slightly from the main road, we are located next to the library and opposite the village newsagents. Our secure outside play area is at the rear of the building, minimising any road noise or distractions from the street. The outside play area has a recently installed Astroturf surface and a good variety of outside play equipment is available. Equipment is stored in a separate brick built shed. The main building is split into two large rooms. The front room is bigger and is used for general play and circle time and also has enough space for a ‘quiet corner’, a ‘home’ corner and dry sandpit. The back room is used for ‘messy play’ activities including wet sand, painting and collage. This room is also where the children are seated at tables for snack time as the kitchen is situated to the rear of the room. Leading from the back room is a lobby area from which a fire escape, storeroom and adult and separate children’s toilet area are accessed. The building is all on one level with no steps to negotiate and a disabled action plan is in place.
